“Better Late Than Never”, a concert movie
On August 2 & 5 of 2018, Carey Yaruss held two performances of her cabaret show at The Venice Theatre in Florida. Her performances were captured by one handheld camera and two smartphone cameras,… and edited into one complete show.
*This was a challenging project to seamlessly combine actions, music, lyrics, applause, and banter; as well as to manipulate the footage to produce more camera angles…. and I chose to use iMovie to add to the challenge.
A 40th Birthday Video
I found a presentation that Cooper gave and cut the video to make it seem he was presenting his own birthday video filled with wishes from friends and family, cut with montages of photos. He reacts to his own video and asks for “next slide, please”, comments to a video of a friend’s memory about him, laughs at another time, and even points and specifies his spouse in another video.
This was a fun one. Cooper is all over social media, supports charitable causes, award-winning columnist, and has many hobbies, so I wanted to capture all of that.
A birthday surprise
I work away most of the time from my family- my incredible daughters and my amazing honey wife Carey. While working full time on an Amazon series, as well as editing Carey’s cabaret performances into one show, I put this treat together. From a windowless first floor apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn I was AIRBnBing for 2 weeks, convenient to my job at the time. With only a short time to do it, I facebooked her friends and got them all to send in videos.
I learned here that a surprise birthday video or any video that celebrates someone, is more than a string of videos lined up put to music. There is a special bond that brings them all together, and that is the person being honored. The gift are the people sending the videos, the giver of the gift is the one who put it all together, and the wrapping to that gift is all the fun and touch of heart that is added through video editing that makes it more than a montage.
